Welcome to the East Sutherland Art Society Website. We are a

long established art society based  in East Sutherland, but attract

members from the wider area as well. Our members are a

mix of both amateur, semi professional and professional artists.

 

We are looking forward to a full programme of events in 2022,

and full details will be available soon, but here's a heads up on

this one!

                                                       ESAS OPEN DAY

                                                                    

            FOUNTAIN ROAD HALL, GOLSPIE - APRIL 2ND, from 11AM.

 

Join us to meet some of our members,  some of whom will be sharing their expertise. See  a wide range of members work. We will also take you down memory lane with photos from previous exhibitions, workshops, and days out, as well as other gems from our archives.

                             REFRESHMENTS  WILL BE AVAILABLE.

East Sutherland Art Society Workshops 2022

All prices are for members (non members can pay £7.50 per day extra, but annual membership is only £15)

 

Portrait drawing group

Sunday 27th March, Sunday 24th April, Sunday 29th May and Sunday 26th June Fountain Hall, Golspie 12:00 until 16:00

Join a small friendly group which meets monthly to develop skills of drawing and painting portraits.  You do  not need to commit to all dates.

Costs of hiring room shared amongst participants.

 

Mosaic workshop with Sally Purdy

Saturday 23rd April Fountain Hall, Golspie 11:00 until 15:30

Try your hand at making a mosaic with everything that you need provided for you (although you can bring your own special broken items to incorporate if you wish). 

Bring a packed lunch (though local shops are close). 

No previous experience necessary.

£20 plus £10 materials

 

Two day plein air painting around Golspie with Jonathan Shearer

Saturday and Sunday 7th and 8th May Fountain Hall, Golspie 10:00 until 16:00.  Limited places left!

Indoor facilities will be available if wet.

Jonathan is an experienced and well known local artist who has run many workshops, classes and plein air sessions.

You will need your own materials and a packed lunch (though local shops are close). 

This is suitable for all levels of experience.

Using sketchbooks and sketching with Cyril Reed. 

Saturday 11th June Dornoch and District Community Association 10:00 until 15:00

There will be some outdoor sketching if weather is good. 

Cyril will bring some of his extensive range of sketchbooks and explain why to use a sketchbook along with guidelines from the simple to more complex. Cyril is an experienced local artist and will be providing handout sheets.

You will need your own sketching equipment and a packed lunch (though local shops are close).   

This is suitable for all levels of experience.

£20 for the day.

 

Introduction to watercolour painting with Gemma Petrie

Monday 27th June Carnegie Hall, Portmahomack 10:30 until 14:30

Gemma will provide an introduction to using watercolours.  She is an established artist living in Portmahomack and using natural forms and landscapes as a basis for her work.

You will need your own basic watercolours, paper and brushes (a list will be provided) and a packed lunch, although the adjacent café should be open and there is also a local shop selling food and drinks.

This is aimed at those inexperienced in using water colours or those wishing to develop their skills in this area.

Two day acrylic workshop with Lisa Weller from Haven House Art (weekdays)

Date and venue in the Helmsdale area to be confirmed but expected to be in August or September

This will be painting landscapes/seascapes, with the intention of going outside to sketch/gather inspiration, but returning to the venue to create the paintings.  You will look at applying paint in a variety of ways for different effects, using brushes in a variety of ways, colour mixing, composition (how to create a pleasing painting), how to create depth within a painting and how to develop confidence in your own style.

Lisa is an established artist and tutor based in Caithness.

This is aimed at beginner to intermediate level and would complement some of the other workshops.

You will need your own materials and a packed lunch although there are local shops selling food.

One day acrylic painting workshop with Julia Tryon

Saturday 10th September from 10:00 until 16:00 at Fountain Road Hall, Golspie

This will be an opportunity to try out many techniques around a theme of birds and/or animals.

Julia is an established local artist and tutor.

This is aimed at complete beginners or those with some experience who would like to learn new techniques, subjects, styles or just grow in confidence.
